March's challenge was to run 100 miles. I must have shared my intentions with a few dozen people, and their initial reactions were all over the board. I heard people say: "That's easy!" as though everyone in their lives runs marathons for fun. I heard people say: "That's impossible!" Although they usually recant if faced with opposition. In the end, I failed. It would be easy to blame my failure on my sudden loss of employment. Certainly I lost my rhythym on that date. But I had been behind even at the time, and my knees were starting to give me trouble. Although well short of my goal, the experience was wonderful. I started out almost never running and I ended up capable of running multiple miles with no problem whatsoever. I ran to oakland and back!
