Giant hydraulic force capacitors absorbed the massive shock and distributed it to the various mass blocks, and their associated warp engines. Much of the force was wasted heating the thermal blocks on the colder areas of the station. All told, the planet sized station's velocity was significantly, if temporarily altered. Were the same force impact the station anywhere else, it would cleave into a thousand pieces. The power relays from the nearby star would be left to beam power at, rather than to the cloud of debris that is now the home to so many soldiers.
