Eventually the power conversion platforms formed a ring around the star, around a chosen midsection.  Once the belt was built, two similar rings of slightly smaller radius would be built at a much greater orbit.  Both of these rings would simultaniously be manuvered onto either side of the belt, and connected.  Once physically connected, the new rings would transmit their collected power to the belt through the wires that connected them.  The power output of the belt was significantly increased with each new layer that was added, until eventually the whole star was covered.  This was the power generator for a station, but also its leash.
